Africa’s rapidly growing prominence on the world stage highlights its increasing importance as a global economic force. Ultimately, new business ventures and strengthened bi-lateral trading ties between Australia and Africa will have a tangible economic benefit for each respective economy in the immediate and longer term.

The AABC’s key purpose is to build and broker business relationships between Australia and the fifty-four nations in Africa.

2011 Nobel Peace Prize: recognition of African leaders

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf: 24th President of Liberia

Only female head across the 54 African nations and joint awardee of the Nobel Peace Prize 2011 with Leymah Gbowee of Liberia and Tawakel Karman of Yemen.

The women were recognized "for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work".
